On the hunt for the best royalty-free stock photography? Look no further – here’s our list of the top public domain, CC0, and free photography sites available for you to download. We will keep adding to the list as we find more.
Unsplash

This is one of the best resources for free, “do whatever you want” with it, photography. All photos are in the public domain, and the filter effects are outstanding! This Tumblr site is curated by Crew, a web dev and design firm based out of Montreal. Unsplash puts out 10 free photos each week – sign up for their newsletter to get your hands on them as soon as they are released, or browse the archives for all photos.
Startup Stock Photos

Oh yes, you will want these photos! Business-related, filter-rich photos of people and technology – mobile devices, laptops, monitors. Real people, too, no cheesy stock models. Made by the great people at Sculpt.
Jay Mantri

Inspired by Unsplash, Jay Mantri puts out 7 new photos every Thursday. Like Unsplash, the photos are modern and the content is interesting – not just a lot of landscapes.
New Old Stock

The place to go for vintage photo downloads, New Old Stock is a great collection of cool old stuff. I saw some awesome typography inspiration on there recently, with old newspaper ads and product labels from the early 1900s.
Get Refe

Free mobile photos from Refe, a stock photo site of real people interacting with technology.
Travel Coffee Book

Another site along the lines of Unsplash, travel moments captured and sent to you, free to download and in the public domain.
Gratisography

Made by Bells Design, Gratisography is a fun curated collection of photos. Vibrant and lively, all in the public domain.
Skitter Photo

A good compilation of travel, flora/fauna, urban photos in the public domain.
Pic Jumbo

Awesome filters and quality, unique content abound on this site by Viktor Hanacek. Attribution requested.
Photo Pin

Search the Flick Creative Commons for photography based on keyword – the search can be broken down by Non-Commercial or Commercial, which is quite handy.
Super Famous

This free photo collection explores texture – very cool even just to browse through for yourself. 🙂
Public Domain Archive

Public Domain Archive is a compilation of other public domain sites.
Breaking Pic

Not currently uploading new content, but all existing free photo packs are available for download until October 2014. Each category is available as a full download, including Communication photos (media and technology). Everything available under the CC0 (public domain) license.
Pixabay

This free stock photo site has a ton of categories, so if you are looking for something in particular it’s a good place to start, but you will need to apply your own filters/effects to them, as most are of the “stock” variety.
